Some mornings I wake up with sore and swollen hands. This often happens after I have sat for several hours the previous evening watching TV and crocheting. I love to crochet, but it is not always easy on my hands.
All of us of a certain…ummm, age…face this issue. Our joints just don’t cooperate after we have overused them. I had been diagnosed with a mild form of arthritis in my neck a few years ago and I have learned to change certain habits and do things to help with the stiffness and pain. I find these things are helping with my hands as well.

Recently, I found that, even with the dietary changes, I am having more problems. Especially when the weather turns cooler. Especially as the hormones decline. So, I decided to do something sort of radical (for me anyway). I decided to see an acupunturist. My husband thinks I am kind of nuts. But honestly, all the doctor had to offer me was advice to use a heating pad and take more pills. I’m a proactive kinda gal and so I decided to try something different.
I found an acupuncturist. She is super gentle. She asks me to rate my pain on a level of 1 to 10. The first time I saw her, it was an 8. Over the course of about four treatments, I can honestly say it has lowered to a 1 or 2. It is weird. But it is helping.
